As Herkimer County’s substance abuse prevention coalition, the Community Partnership Coalition of Herkimer County has created The Partnership Times in an effort to help spread awareness on the importance of preventing our youth from engaging in substance use, along with educating our community on the concerns surrounding substance abuse. CPCHC was formed in May of 2012 by Catholic Charities’ Herkimer County Prevention Council, and marks 5 years of substance abuse prevention efforts from the Partnership. CPCHC was initially formed to combat an increasing drug problem in Herkimer County. Efforts began with local police departments and other agencies working together on the coalition to address the concern of synthetic drug use and its effects. Once progress was made, the focus shifted towards other substance abuse concerns that were showing up in the community. CPCHC was determined to continue community education and awareness of current trends surrounding substance abuse. The Partnership successfully obtained funding from the DFC (Drug-Free Communities) federal grant program which allowed the coalition to expand their efforts and hire full time project coordinator, Kayleigh Murphy. From various trainings to information on current trends, prescription take back events to community awareness events-our focus of substance abuse prevention provides the community with all things surrounding the concern of substance use and abuse. It is our hope that this newsletter helps spread our message and gets our community talking because, #PREVENTIONWORKS.
